I don't want to repeat work that others might have already done. How can I find out what others have researched and found out already within my family line?

Mike,

This same thing happened to me. My mother has done lots of work with our family history. She did not want to do all the work that has already been done, so she started by calling all the family members she knew. Even those that she had spoken to in years. Just call and ask if anyone has done any work. My experience with it is that if someone has done work they are proud of it and more than willing to share with you. IF your lucky you just get a computer file with all the work done. If not you get a HUGE print out like my wife did with all her family work on it. Good Luck,

Thanks! Looks like I will be calling some family the next couple of weeks. :) – Mike Grace Oct 18 at 3:36
